Man found dead on Kapiti Coast identified

A man found dead in a vehicle at a Kapiti Coast beach early on Saturday morning has been identified by police.

The 41-year-old was found at 4.50am yesterday at Peka Peka Beach.

His vehicle appeared to have come off the road and was stuck on a sand dune. The engine was still running and the driver was unconscious when found by a member of the public.

Police have since notified the dead man's parents and partner. His cause of death remains unknown and a post-mortem will be conducted tomorrow.

The man's vehicle has been removed from the scene.

His death was being treated as unexplained, police said, and the Wellington District Crime Squad were interested in speaking to anyone who may have been in the beach area of Peka Peka Rd between midnight and 5am on Saturday.
