Probe into car crash involving cop

An internal police investigation is under way after a police officer was allegedly involved in a crash that injured another driver.

Flaxmere Constable Shane Greville was off-duty when his Chevrolet Camaro was in a collision with another car in Havelock North at the weekend.

Mr Greville declined to comment and referred questions to his lawyer Jonathan Krebs yesterday.

Mr Krebs also declined to talk about his client or the crash, preferring to leave what was "already in the public domain".

However, a police spokeswoman said: "An internal police employment investigation is under way and at this early stage we are considering his duty status."

The other driver had a suspected broken nose and was taken to Hawke's Bay Hospital then later discharged.

It's understood Mr Greville paid $89,000 for the 1967 Camaro, which he had bought just three weeks ago.
