Teen in court after Whangarei death

A 17-year-old Raumanga man appeared in the Whangarei District Court today jointly charged with a 16-year-old male with the murder of Michael Patrick Griffin.

The man was granted interim name suppression and remanded in custody to appear in the High Court at Whangarei next Thursday with the co-accused.

Police arrested the teenager about 8.30pm on Thursday and it comes eight days after police arrested a 16-year-old. They would not say of the teenagers were related.

Mr Griffin, the father of three adult sons, died after receiving severe head injuries. He was found on his Second Avenue property on the morning of Sunday October 5 and later died in hospital.

Detective Senior Sergeant Dene Begbie there was still plenty of work to be done and continued his appeal for members of the public in the avenues ares who had been interviewed to come forward.
