Narrow escape from Christchurch house fire

One person has suffered burns after a family narrowly escaped from a house fire in Christchurch overnight.

Five people were in the Glovers Rd property in the suburb of Halswell when the fire took hold around 1.50am.

The Fire Service received multiple calls about the blaze, which started in a caravan and spread to the nearby house, Mau Barbara, senior communicator at the Fire Service central communications centre, said.

One person was treated for burns at the scene before being taken to hospital by ambulance. The four other occupants were uninjured, Mr Barbara said.

Both the caravan and the house are believed to have been damaged in the blaze.

Fire investigators would be on the scene this morning to establish what caused the fire.
