Body found in Waikato river identified

The body of a man recovered from a Waikato river yesterday has been identified as the man who was reported missing earlier this week, police say.

Jonathan Kinvig, 42, was discovered in the Waihou River, near Okaiua Springs Road, in Matamata yesterday afternoon, Senior Constable Bruce Warrender of Matamata police said.

Mr Kinvig, a resident at the Opal Springs Hot Pools and Holiday Park, was last seen at the holiday park on the night of May 14.

The Waikato Police Search and Rescue team start a search of the area around the holiday park and nearby Waihou River on Tuesday.

"On behalf of New Zealand Police I would like to express our sympathies to the family of Mr Kinvig," Mr Warrender said.

There were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his disappearance and the matter had been referred to the coroner.
