Four people were injured, including four whom rescuers found lying on the road, after a van collided with a farm tractor on a public road.
The collision happened 500m south of Lake Rd in Porangahau, in southern Hawkes Bay, last night.
Two of the victims - a 56-year-old man and 16-year-old girl - were taken by the Hawke's Bay Rescue Helicopter to hospital, while the other two were transported by the Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter.
Police were called to the scene, near the Wanstead Tavern, by ambulance services about 5.30pm, Inspector Ken Climo of police central communications said.
Two hours later, the Hawke's Bay helicopter airlifted a 41-year-old woman who had been hit by a car while cycling on Hatuma Road, south of Waipukurau. She suffered moderate injuries.
