Girl suspected of Invercargill burglaries

Invercargill police are investigating a large number of burglaries they suspect have been carried out by an 11-year-old girl.

Items that have been targeted over the past four weeks in south Invercargill include jewellery, wallets and cellphones.

Police said it is believed the girl approached home owners with a fabricated story to get into the property, where items are then stolen from. She was also entering unlocked homes at times that residents were inside.

Police reminded the public to ensure that their homes and vehicles were secured at all times.

Anyone who saw this girl, or any suspicious behaviour, was urged to contact police immediately on 111.

Members of the public with information which may relate to the burglaries could call Invercargil police on ph 03 211-0400, or report it anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
