A large fire on an empty section in Cromwell's industrial area sparked a callout by of the Cromwelll Volunteer Fire Brigade this morning.
The landowner was burning mostly tree stumps, Cromwell chief fire officer Steve Shaw said.
Two crews from the brigade spent about 45 minutes at the site, dampening down the blaze.
There is a prohibited fire season in force in Central Otago and Mr Shaw reminded property owners to be aware of the current fire season status.
