Boy accused of dangerous driving bailed

A 14-year-old boy who allegedly ran over a road worker while trying to flee police in Stokes Valley has been remanded on bail and ordered to not enter the area.

The boy, who can't be named because of his age, is charged with reckless driving causing injury, failing to ascertain injury and failing to stop.

He appeared at the Youth Court at Hutt Valley District Court and was remanded on bail until next month.

Judge O'Dwyer said the boy, his parents, social worker and police needed to come up with a plan for the boy to be monitored in the daytime during his bail.

"The next time he comes to court, there needs to be a very specific plan."

His bail conditions included never to enter Stokes Valley, not to associate with witnesses, not to drive a car and to be closely monitored while on bail.

"During that time, you will be on bail conditions. They are strict conditions. If you breach it you will lose your bail and be remanded in custody," the judge said.
