Man critical after shooting in Mangere

A 35-year-old man is fighting for his life after a shooting in South Auckland.

The man was taken to Middlemore Hospital after the incident in Mangere about 3am today.

He remains in a critical condition in hospital.

Police were called to a Yates Rd property after receiving a call from St John ambulance.

A scene examination was under way and police would be at the house for some time while this was carried out.

The road was likely to remain shut for most of the day.

Detective Senior Sergeant Kevin McNaughton said police were following a number of positive leads, but have asked anyone with information to come forward.

"I want to reassure the Mangere community that we are doing everything possible to identify the person or persons responsible for this crime," he said.

"We have a number of detectives working on this investigation but need anyone who can help police to please get in touch."

Anyone with information was asked to contact Counties Manukau Police or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
