Quakes rattle lower North Island

The North Island has been rattled by a couple of earthquakes this morning.

A strong 5.2 quake has struck near Masterton.

The quake was felt across the lower North Island when it hit just before 8am.

It struck 10km west of Masterton at a depth of 35km and was felt as far as afield as New Plymouth to Nelson.

This follows an earlier quake of 4.7 magnitude which struck at 7.15am at a depth of 28km.

This follows a strong quake that rattled Cantabrians last night.

Thousands reported feeling the 4.7 quake that struck at a depth of seven kilometres, 10km southeast of Christchurch at 8:45pm.
