Stop the Stadium filed an injunction notice in the High Court on Friday in a bid to stop the Dunedin City Council from entering into a contract to build the proposed $198 million stadium.
The council was expected to sign the contract at an extraordinary meeting on Monday morning, but the city solicitors would examine the papers during the weekend and give councillors a confidential briefing about options at the start of the meeting, the Otago Daily Times reported.
Support for the controversial stadium to replace Carisbrook has been far from unanimous, and Stop the Stadium believed the council should consult further with ratepayers.
The stadium represented in the long-term plan draft was not substantially the same as that in the current annual plan, the group said.
If the matter proceeded to a hearing, Ms Butler expected it might be a week before it would be heard in the High Court at Dunedin.
