Electorate posts filled

A new chairwoman and secretary have been elected in the National Party's Clutha-Southland electorate as the party tries to move on from the upheaval of recent months.

Two electorate secretaries and the electorate chairman resigned prior to claims surfacing early last month of a secret recording made by MP Todd Barclay.

A police investigation is understood to be under way.

Yesterday, Margot Hishon, of Winton, confirmed she had been elected chairwoman at the party's annual meeting last Friday.

Stuart Davie resigned as chairman in the wake of the "employment issue'' in the Gore electorate office involving the former electorate secretary Glenys Dickson.

Mrs Hishon said Bridgette Smith, of Gore, has been elected secretary.

Mrs Hishon said neither the employment issue, nor the police investigation, were raised during the meeting.

"If anyone had any concerns or grievances, that was the forum to do it ... no questions were raised.

"I'm not in the least bit interested in an employment issue,'' Mrs Hishon said when asked about the matter.

It is understood police have spoken to many people connected to the electorate about the complaint.

Mr Barclay told the Otago Daily Times late last week he had not been contacted by police.
