Broadcasters in a bidding war are meeting in Auckland to try
to find a compromise bid for Rugby World Cup broadcasts.
Prime Minister John Key and Maori Affairs Minister Pita
Sharples arrived at question time at Parliament together this
afternoon to tell media of the development.
"We are very hopeful a successful outcome can be achieved and
progress can be made," Mr Key said.
State-funded broadcasters TVNZ and Maori Television Service
have submitted competing bids to screen 16 live free-to-air
games from the 2011 cup in New Zealand, using taxpayer money.
