Construction on Outside Sports' mountain bike Ride Demo Centre and pump track is finished and they are ready to roll this weekend.

The centre offers bike test rides, bike repairs by professional mechanics close to the Queenstown Bike Park and a custom-built pump track designed by elite downhill rider Justin Leov.

A pump track is a continuous loop that can be ridden on a bike without pedalling and consists of a series of rolling bumps and banked corners which allow riders to gain momentum.

Located near the bottom of the Skyline Gondola, the centre boasts a demo fleet including the Specialised Demo 8, Turner DHR, Nukeproof Scalp and Commencal 24 Supremes.

Outside Sports bike manager Jim Hawkridge said it was exciting to have somewhere for people to test the bikes in their element before committing to buying one.

"You can really experience how the bike handles in all sorts of terrain and find the bike that suits your riding style best. We have rental bikes available from all price points so there is something to try, no matter what your budget is."

General manager Ivan Santin said even those not in the market for a new bike could still test ride one of the high-performance machines.

He said the bikes were proving popular with tourists, with one punter so impressed with the bike he did not want to give it back.

There will be an official launch party early next month and events at the site over summer.
