Presentation about campus open to all

The first parent information evening about the consented $3 million-$5 million satellite campus of St Joseph's School will be held on Thursday and is open to all, the board of trustees says.

Board chairwoman Gigi Hollyer said she and principal Trisch Inder would be joined by the Diocese of Dunedin Catholic education director Tony Hanning for the public presentation in the Queenstown school at 7pm.

Mrs Hollyer said the education office was in talks with the Ministry of Education to secure funding for construction of the campus.

In April, Justice Christine French upheld earlier Environment Court approval and resource consent for the campus for up to 112 primary school-aged children in stages, which had been granted by the Queenstown Lakes District Council.

Despite maintaining their opposition, the remaining two pairs of appellants withdrew their application to appeal the High Court decision in mid-June, which ended a six-year legal battle.

The "special character" Speargrass campus would consist of a 480sq m classroom block and a 220sq m administration block.

A total of 43 car parks would be provided, along with playing fields and a hard court area.

Water, sewerage and waste disposal services were provided and the site was on a school bus route.

The teaching of children was expected to begin at Speargrass in 2014.
