Police investigating the theft of mail in Queenstown executed
a search warrant in Arrowtown today and seized more
undelivered mail.
Over the past few days police and NZ Post staff have been
working together to count and catalogue the undelivered mail.
Police are not yet able to provide a final figure for the
mail recovered, it is expected to number in the tens of
thousands.
Some items of mail had been opened.
They will be making enquiries with those senders and
recipients who are able to be identified to ascertain whether
any property has been removed.
Police are unable at this stage to provide a time-frame as to
when the unopened articles of mail will be released for
delivery.
A 32-year-old Queenstown woman, contracted by NZ Post, was
arrested on Friday by police after they were notified by the
company of concerns over undelivered mail to the Fernhill
area.
She will appear at the Queenstown District Court on Monday on
one charge of theft by a person in a special relationship.
