Following the purchase of the park on the Pisa Range above the Cardrona Valley earlier this month by southern hemisphere Proving Grounds Ltd (SHPG), the freestyle ski resort was declared permanently closed to the public, although it was hoped it could still open for events, including the snowboard and free-ski slopestyle FIS World Cup competitions during the Winter Games in August.
Opening depended on income from high-performance training camps to cover the considerable costs associated with building the half-pipe and park facilities needed for the events.
However, SHPG managing director Tom Elworthy said a bid to attract international bookings for training camps attracted insufficient interest, meaning Snow Park could not commit to building the facilities.
''It's a bit of a shame, but in the end, unless we could secure some revenue to make it stack up, it's not even a starter.''
The decision was made by games organisers this week to move the slopestyle events across the valley to Cardrona Alpine Resort.
Games chief executive Arthur Klap said the change of venue required postponing the snowboard-cross Continental Cup possibly until September, and cancelling the IPC Para-Snowboard Cross World Cup - both were to be held at Cardrona - to ease demands on events staff and groomers.
''They would be preparing a half-pipe ... a slopestyle course and ... a gravity-cross course and that's just beyond anyone's capacity to be able to manage all of those in such a short period of time.''
Mr Elworthy said the lack of interest in using Snow Park as a training facility did not bode well for the resort, given most teams would have bigger budgets at their disposal this year ahead of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Russia in February.
It will be the first time free-ski half pipe and both free-ski and snowboard slopestyle events have been included in the Olympic programme.
''I think it reflects that the ski resorts traditionally have really subsidised pipes and parks in the past as part of an overall package. But in the Snow Park's package, when it's your only product it's not so straight-forward, because you don't have an opportunity to sell hundreds of lift tickets to other people, because there aren't other people.''
There was an ''outside chance'' some private group bookings would still confirm they were coming - for events like brand launches and filming - but not in time to prepare the park for the games.
Snow Park would instead be used for hospitality events, for an expansion of SHPG's vehicle-testing facilities, and as a training ground for international ski racing teams - which requires only ''about 5%'' of the amount of snow and grooming work necessary for park and pipe training.
