Trolleys have been primped, primed and are ready to roll in Arrowtown today, in the Arrowtown Community Preschool's two-yearly trolley derby.

About half a dozen trolleys, made by community groups, businesses and families, will race from the preschool at Manse St, on to Surrey St, down Villiers St and on to the finish line at Ramshaw Lane.

After time trials, beginning at 10am, several knockout heats will be held from 1pm until the eventual winner - the fastest trolley - is found.

Preschool teacher Kylie Burrell said that, along with the racing, there would be plenty of entertainment for everyone, including a bouncy castle, face painting, food stalls, a sushi stall and a hamburger stall, with all proceeds from the day going towards the outdoor environment at the Manse St preschool and its Cotter Ave counterpart.

''It's a great community event and anyone can get involved at every level,'' Mrs Burrell said.
