Arrowtown RSA president John Lindsay (right) pays tribute to the fallen after depositing his remembrance poppy in the helmet, followed by Queenstown RSA president David Geddes (centre) and participants of the Armistice Day service in Arrowtown.

The service and sacrifice by soldiers, sailors and air personnel in all wars were remembered by veterans and members of the Arrowtown and Queenstown Returned and Services' Associations (RSAs) at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month yesterday.

November 11 is the anniversary of the Armistice, which ended hostilities on the Western Front of World War 1.

The centenary of the outbreak of ''the war to end all wars'' will be held next year.
