Connor Bland and Graham Nelson push their bikes in the transition area during the the 20th Lake Hayes Christmas Triathlon and Duathlon yesterday.

More than 400 competitors opted to work off their Christmas indulgences during the event, which was held in perfect conditions.

The Lake Hayes Triathlon was established in 1983, making it New Zealand's longest-running triathlon.

This year the event included Olympic and sprint distance triathlons, a duathlon, 5km and 10km trail runs and a ''Du It'' Challenge comprising a 1.5km run and 8km mountain bike, ending with another 1.5km run.
