'Ferocious' daylight attack in Albert Town

A gang of three - including a 15-year-old - beat a man in a "ferocious" daylight attack in an Albert Town street.

The trio were arrested after the assault in Dale St about 12:45pm yesterday.

Police are now seeking sightings of a vehicle connected to the attack.

Two males, aged 17 and 20, are to appear in the Queenstown District Court today charged with assault with intent to injure.

A 15-year-old male has been referred to Police Youth Aid Section.

"The assault was witnessed by a number of residents who were concerned at the ferocity and duration of the attack on the victim," Sergeant Simon Paget, of Wanaka, said.

"Wanaka police are still very keen to speak to any other individuals who witnessed the attack and urge them to get in touch."

Police are appealing for sightings and information regarding a Silver Mitsubishi Chariot which appeared to be set up for freedom camping.

''A male and female in this vehicle are key to our investigation and we would like to speak to them as soon as possible," Sgt Paget said.

"As the two are possibly visitors to New Zealand and may be transient or residing in camping grounds we would ask the general public to keep an eye out for it and report any sightings to police.

"We are very concerned about the wellbeing of the occupants and urge them to get in touch with police" Sgt Paget said.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Wanaka police on (03) 443 7272.
