Glendhu Bay has a new boat ramp (left), making it easier for boat users to launch their craft on to Lake Wanaka.

The Queenstown Lakes District Council installed the ramp, along with signs at the turnoff from Wanaka-Mt Aspiring Rd.

The ramp is near the western boundary of the Glendhu Bay camp.

The ramp is fully functional now, but more concrete will be added in the new year once the lake level drops.

Deputy mayor Lyal Cocks said the ramp, which opened on Monday, was a ''very useful addition to the facilities available for boat users''.

There is a standard fee of $5 per launch to use the ramp, or boat users can buy a season pass for $40 at the council office in Ardmore St, Wanaka.

The pass gives unlimited use of all boat ramps in the Queenstown Lakes district.
