Scooter rider found hurt

A person found unconscious in an Arrowtown street may have hit a speed hump and come off his scooter, police say.

The 17-year-old local male was found by a member of the public who contacted police.

Senior Sergeant Paula Enoka, of Queenstown, told the Otago Daily Times she did not believe any other vehicles were involved.

The incident happened in Caernarvon St, and the rider was found near his scooter about 8.30pm on Sunday night.

He was taken to Lakes District Hospital.

His injuries included a broken collarbone, Snr Sgt Enoka said.

She urged any witnesses to come forward.

● A 26-year-old has been charged with refusing a doctor's request for blood, after being stopped by police on Monday morning.

Snr Sgt Enoka said the local man was stopped during a routine vehicle check on Shotover St at 4am.

t the time he opted for a blood-alcohol test, rather than a breath-alcohol recording, but then refused to give a sample.

● A 46-year-old man has been charged over a crash involving a car and camper van at the weekend in which four people were injured. Snr Sgt Enoka said the American driver faced one charge of careless driving causing injury.

● Three people arrested after a fight outside a church in Queenstown have been given pre-charge warnings.

Snr Sgt Enoka said a group of 20-25 people were seen "running around'' the grounds of St Peter's Church near the resort's police station at 3.30am yesterday.

Those warned were a 23-year-old female from Queenstown, a 21-year old male from Queenstown and a 19-year-old male from Dunedin.
