One of the stars of Easter's Warbirds Over Wanaka International Airshow, the Catalina PBY-5A flying boat has been flight-tested after a $350,000 refurbishment.

The Catalina has been restored in New Plymouth over the past four years and is the only one in New Zealand still flying.

Catalina chief pilot Brett Emeny said this week getting the plane airborne again was a big moment and it would be ready to take part in the Wanaka show.

As well as being involved with displays on both days of the show, the Catalina and other amphibious aircraft will land on Lake Wanaka on Good Friday afternoon.

The show is expected to attract a crowd of about 50,000 people.
