The Queenstown Lakes District Council says police have reported several accidents across the basin, including black ice-related incidents in the Lower Shotover, Arrow Junction, Macdonnell Rd and Arthurs Point.
Some roads may have delays while the vehicles are cleared.
Police said there had been hard frosts throughout the district and road users needed to drive to the conditions, and delay any travel if possible.
All shaded areas have been gritted and roading contractors are working around the area, including Wilsons Bay, Bobs Cove, Arthurs Point and Malaghans Road.
The Crown Range Road is also very icy right through to the Cardrona Valley Road.
