A man was taken by ambulance to Lakes District Hospital after
he took a fall over the handlebars of his bicycle
shortly before 9am yesterday.
Sergeant Terry Wood, of Queenstown, said the man, who
appeared to be in his 20s, had been riding his bike towards
town.
He had a plastic bag in each hand, while holding the
handlebars of the bike.
As he was riding down the hill at Stanley St, one of the bags
apparently got caught in the front wheel, causing the cyclist
to crash after the Coronation Dr intersection outside the
courthouse.
The extent of his injuries was not known, but he was
conscious when the ambulance arrived.
"He was not wearing a helmet, which added to his injuries.
"He had several cuts and bruises to his face, and was looking
shocked and dazzled when he left in the ambulance," Sgt Wood
said.
No other people were involved in the accident.
