The lacklustre construction sector is expected to revive and
could become the "big swing factor" to boost the country's
gross domestic product, BNZ's senior economist Craig Ebert
predicts.

dangerous, insanitary and earthquake-prone buildings, with a
view to increased protection of the city's assets.
Hiring intentions in the South Island have risen solidly,
mainly driven by the construction industry, which is
undertaking extensive work required to repair homes and
buildings damaged in the Canterbury earthquake.
Residential construction has levelled off as much as
commercial construction has slumped in the Queenstown Lakes
district, the Registered Master Builders Federation (RMBF)
says.
One month on from the opening of the $17.3 million
Remarkables Primary School, more than 60 children are being
educated by the foundation staff of 13, and construction
continues on schedule.
