After a decade and multiple appeals and changes to the
original proposal, the Dunedin City Council has approved a
district plan change that will allow the development of a
small section of Dunedin's harbourside.
The
Dunedin harbourside plan change may be grinding slowly
through the Environment Court process but, despite this,
Dunedin city councillor Colin Weatherall believes the new
vision can still be successfully implemented.
The future of Dunedin's harbourside plan may yet be decided
by an Environment Court judge, despite good progress during
mediation talks between the Dunedin City Council and a group
of upset business owners.
Closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras could be installed
in the city centre by Christmas, after the Dunedin City
Council voted yesterday to access a fund last used in the
1970s.
An Otago Chamber of Commerce advertising campaign aimed at
putting pressure on the Dunedin City Council to drop its
controversial plan change 7: harbourside, is being backed by
more than 160 businesses.
