Almost 200 nations have extended a weakened United Nations
plan for combating global warming until 2020 with a modest
set of measures that would do nothing to halt rising world
greenhouse gas emissions.
Temperatures appear to be rising inside the Dunedin City
Council, after the chief executive of one of its own
companies called for the Kyoto Protocol to be abandoned.
Dunedin company City Forests says the Government should
abandon the Kyoto Protocol, rather than commit to revised
rules it fears could lumber forestry companies with "massive"
additional costs.
