Bus travel into Dunedin's city centre at weekends will become
more direct and frequent with the introduction of new
Saturday bus services, the Otago Regional Council says.
New standards for urban buses have been described as
"craziness" by the Otago Regional Council, which fears it
could lose funding if it wants to keep its higher standards.
Proposals for the Dunedin City Council to take over the
control of the city's buses have emerged again, this time
with Dunedin Mayor Dave Cull confirming he has had
preliminary discussions with Otago Regional Council chairman
Stephen Woodhead.
The Dunedin City Council is considering a possible takeover
of the Dunedin public transport network from the Otago
Regional Council, which could pave the way for an overhaul of
the service.
Proposed changes
to the financial assistance rates for public transport and
transport planning have been described by the Otago Regional
Council as "offensive" and having gone "a bit too far".
