Remarkables Primary School looks set to benefit from
Queenstown's version of Mardi Gras, with funds raised from
the sale of glow products and coloured beads to be donated to
the school.
John Stalker stepped down last week as chairman of the
Remarkables Primary School board of trustees, after two
years. However, he will continue to serve as deputy chairman
and will remain involved in school issues.
Remarkables Primary School wants extra classrooms built on
site by the end of 2012 to cope with enrolment growth, only
two years after the $17.3 million facility opened.
Remarkables Primary School's 54 newly enrolled pupils gather
together after Wednesday's new entrants' assembly, which the
school's first year 7 and year 8 pupils attended.
Remarkables Primary School pupils are "well engaged with
their learning" and are "well led and governed", a confident
report card written by the national education watchdog says.
The Ministry of Education insists the existing school network
in Wakatipu meets population demands and provision for rising
numbers of pupils continues to be "a priority".
About $17,000 was raised for Remarkables Primary School at
its rugby-themed fundraiser on Saturday night, when more than
250 people braved stormy weather to watch the All Blacks beat
France, on a giant screen, before dancing the night away.
Immediate action was
needed by the Ministry of Education to address enrolment-zone
and roll-growth issues in the Wakatipu, the Remarkables
Primary School's board said last night.
