Perennially popular Irish rockers U2 were again the top
touring band in the world in 2011, repeating their
globe-topping haul from 2009, according to trade magazine
Pollstar.
U2 and its frontman Bono, known for their global
poverty-fighting efforts, were accused of dodging taxes in
Ireland by activists who crashed their performance at
England's Glastonbury festival.
A song dedicated to U2's Kiwi roadie 25 years ago was
transformed in a haunting memorial to the Pike River 29 last
night, when the Irish rock band played at Auckland's packed
Mt Smart Stadium.
U2 brought three generations of chart-toppers - Mick Jagger,
Bruce Springsteen and the Black Eyed Peas - with them onstage
at another night of mix-and-match magic at Madison Square
Garden.
