Australian model killed fighting with IS

An Australian man has reportedly been shot dead in Syria after joining Islamic State.

Melbourne man and former model Sharky Jama was killed in fighting after joining IS militants in the war-torn country last year, his father Dada Jama told SBS.

The broadcaster says the dead man's father received a phone call on Monday informing him of the news.

According to social media, Jama had earlier been living in the Iraqi city of Fallujah, which is held by IS.

SBS said Dada Jama planned to speak to the local Somali community to warn them against joining the militant group.

Condolences have been posted on Facebook, where Jama's friends have been mourning his death.
