NERC dominates Dunstan Long 8s

The North End Rowing clubs open eight dominated the 17km long course from Cromwell to Clyde in a flying time of 59min 57sec, apparently only the second time the 1hr mark has been broken.

North End set out with a hefty pace from the starting blocks at the Cromwell end of lake Dunstan, going head to head with the Otago Uni open eight into turn one of the mammoth slog down the lake.

Otago Uni held their line into turn one, however NERC had the inside advantage.

After some blade clashes and exchange of a few dirty words, NERC popped out of turn one half a boat length ahead. by the half way point Uni had rowed through the NERC eight and had put a whopping two boat lengths on NERC.

But the heart and shear determination of the NERC crew could not be stopped.

NERC dug deep and not only managed to pull back the two boat lengths that uni had put on them, they then rowed right through them to take the lead. just when uni thought the could grab the lead back from North End.

The north end crew just kept on chucking the power on and pulling away from Uni with such force that it made it look as thought Uni were standing still.

A fantastic result to a fantastic race, well done to the huge number of people that entered and finished the race.
