University of Otago student Leone Campbell (18, right) hands out information pamphlets in the Octagon yesterday to Alice Bailey, of Dunedin, as part of Pink Shirt Day 2010.

The event was held throughout New Zealand to stand up against bullying.

The first Pink Shirt Day took place in Nova Scotia, Canada, when two 17-year-old high school pupils decided to stand up for a friend who had been harassed for wearing a pink shirt to school.

The boys decided the bullying had to stop, so they went to a discount store, brought 50 pink tank tops, and handed them to pupils to wear.
