Police are ''very concerned'' for the welfare of missing Alexandra woman Denise Potter.

Mrs Potter (53) went missing from her daughter's Dunedin address on Monday afternoon.

A police spokesman said police staff, a police dog and a volunteer search party's dog continued the search around Carroll St in central Dunedin yesterday afternoon - the last place Mrs Potter was seen, but without success.

Police had searched other ''areas of interest'' around Dunedin and parts of Alexandra where Mrs Potter comes from.

The spokesman said police were ''very concerned for Mrs Potter's welfare''.

Mrs Potter was last seen wearing dark blue denim jeans, a two-toned black and grey, long sleeved three-quarter buttoned shirt with white cuffs, and no footwear.

She is described as slim, with light brown, collar-length hair.

Police are urging members of the public who may have seen Mrs Potter, or know where she is, to contact the Southern District Command Centre on (03) 471 5002.
