Caber tossing once again caught the attention of Waimate
residents and visitors on Saturday, as the annual Waimate
Caledonian Games attracted a good crowd, and some overseas
competitors.
This year the event also included speed skating and cycling,
alongside the traditional Highland games, piping and dancing
competitions.
Games secretary-treasurer Winnie Todd said the involvement of
three Slovakian skaters had been a real highlight of the day.
A crowd of about 600 turned out to watch and the caber toss
event was popular with many, she said.
''The day was excellent and everybody went away happy.
