''A spree'' of burglaries of holiday accommodation at Waianakarua and in the Waitaki Valley resulted in Damon Barry Needham being sentenced to 13 months' jail by Judge Joanna Maze in the Oamaru District Court yesterday.
The offences were committed ''six to seven weeks'' after Needham (21), of Oamaru, had been sentenced in May to community detention for four other burglaries, she said.
Needham was appearing for sentence for burglaries of a camper bus and holiday home at Waianakarua on June 24 and two caravans at Otematata on June 25 and being unlawfully on a houseboat moored at Sailor's Cutting, Lake Benmore, on June 25.
He was also sentenced for driving while disqualified, having been convicted of two previous similar offences, in Richmond Rd on the Waitaki Plains on July 2.
Judge Maze said while little was taken, damage was done and there was an emotional impact on victims.
On each of the burglary charges, Needham was sentenced to 13 months' jail, to be served concurrently, and to pay $527.83 reparation.
Being unlawfully on the houseboat, he was sentenced to one month's jail, to be served concurrently. For driving while disqualified, he was sentenced to one month's jail, also concurrent, and disqualified for 12 months.
