Man (35) found dead

The sudden death of a dairy worker at Elderslie, near Oamaru, is being investigated by police, but it could not be confirmed yesterday whether it was suspicious.

The 35-year-old man was found dead inside a Pine Hill Rd house about 4.30am yesterday. A portion of the road outside the house was still cordoned off by police about 5pm.

The house was on Elderslie Dairy Farms Ltd property, and the man had worked for the company for about five years.

Elderslie Dairy Farms' manager Andrew Jeffries said the man was ''hard working''.

''The company, staff and myself want to send condolences to his family and children,'' he said.

Acting Detective Inspector Colin Blackie said emergency services were called to the house, about 10km inland from Oamaru, about 4.30am. Police from Oamaru and Dunedin were involved and a scene examination was carried out.

Late yesterday, police said it was too early to conclusively confirm whether the man's death was suspicious.

Initial work being completed yesterday should provide more information.
