Day of the running dead

Waimate's Knottingley Park will be infested with zombies on November 8 - all in the name of charity.

In a first for Waimate, a Zombie run is being organised by Studholme farmer Rory Foley.

Mr Foley has become known as Waimate's ''horror mastermind'' for his charitable work with both the Studholme Maize Maze and the Waimate Asylum Horror House attractions.

On November 8, runners will wear two tags as they make their way around a 2km course, with various assault course obstacles- and 20 zombies - in their way.

''The zombies' goal is to rip the tags off,'' Mr Foley said.

If one tag gets ripped off, the runner becomes infected. If both go, it's ''game over''.

Zombie runs have become very popular around the world and Mr Foley saw it as something ''different'' for Waimate.

Runners can register on the day for the R13 event that begins at 1pm.

Registrations will be $10 per person, or $40 for a team of 5, with profits going to a local sportswoman bound for a tournament in Egypt.
