A 72-year-old Waimate man is in Oamaru Hospital with severe abrasions and bruising after crashing his microlight plane at Hilderthorpe, near Oamaru, this afternoon.

Emergency services were called at 2.25pm to the incident in Macdonalds Rd, after the microlight crashed into a hedge near a house.
