Addressing euthanasia

A North Otago group is bringing an opponent of legalising euthanasia to Oamaru to speak on what it says is ''a controversial topic''.

The North Otago branch of Voice for Life has John Kleinsman speaking on Tuesday at the Brydone Hotel at 7.30pm on the dangers of legalised euthanasia.

Dr Kleinsman is a member of the Care Alliance and director of the Nathaniel Centre, the New Zealand Catholic Bioethics Centre. He has been invited to Oamaru by pro life group Voice for Life.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Mrs Tani Newton said it was important for the public to be fully informed about such a serious issue.

Dr Kleinsman was a knowledgeable and articulate speaker who clearly explained the distinctions between withdrawing and withholding treatment, pain relief, assisted suicide and euthanasia, she said.
