Electricity lines company workers in rural Otago and Southland will take limited strike action next week if talks set down for today do not result in a better deal, a statement from their union, E Tu, says.
Workers at PowerNet, in Southland, and Otago Power Services want a 3% pay rise, but have been offered 1.5%.
Organiser Trevor Hobbs said his members often worked erratic hours in difficult weather conditions. If it goes ahead, the strike action will involve a two-week overtime ban. PowerNet, which manages Otago Power Services, declined to comment.
