WoolOn postponed until next year

Otago's favourite woolly fashion show will not be held this year, after separating from the Blossom Festival.

A committee formed this week to organise the WoolOn show decided to postpone it from its usual October date to about May next year.

The event was part of the Alexandra Blossom Festival, typically held in late September and early October, for 10 years.

In February organisers decided to separate the events.

Tim Cadogan is the WoolOn chairman and Clair Higginson, who chairs the Blossom Festival, is deputy chairwoman.

Both have organised WoolOn in the past.

Mr Cadogan said having two events close to each other placed a "financial strain'' on attendees.

"We also have a tight timeframe with a new committee. And we have to gain charitable status.''

The time difference would make WoolOn its own entity, he said.

More than 60 designers entered garments last year,

seeking $10,000 in prizemoney.
