No further police action over injured schoolboy

Police have finished their investigation and will take no further action on an incident in which a 10 year old Invercargill boy was seriously injured with an electric fence standard.

The boy is recovering in the children's ward at Dunedin Hospital following the incident at Sacred Heart School on Friday morning.

Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Stu Harvey, of Invercargill, said yesterday the boy's condition was improving slowly following surgery for the head injury.

The police investigation found a 9 year old Sacred Heart pupil picked up the fence standard while walking to school that morning and the pair were playing together before school when the incident happened, he said.

''No further police action will be taken in respect to this incident.''
