Two injured in Southland crash

Two people sustained minor to moderate injuries after the car in which they were travelling hit a pole tonight on the Gorge Rd-Invercargill Highway.

A police media spokeswoman said power lines were down across the road and lines company Powertech was at the scene, as well as an ambulance.

One person took a while to get out of the car after it was initially reported they were trapped, the spokeswoman said.

It was going to take some time for the lines company to clear the road but the road was not closed, she said.

Fire Service southern communications spokeswoman Jill Higginson said the accident happened about 7.40pm.
