The Nude Blacks are not at risk of overexposure when they take on the Romanian Vampires at Larnach Castle this weekend, their organiser maintains.

The Dunedin-based team is desperate to get its biggest season yet back on track, after losing to a spirited Spanish selection a fortnight ago.

Organiser Ralph Davies, of HeadFirst Travel, said there was plenty at stake for the team in taking on a team of visiting vampires who would be dressed to impress.

The game, to be held in front of Larnach Castle, is billed as the unofficial curtain raiser to the England v Romania World Cup clash and promises to be the biggest photo opportunity yet with hundreds of fans, media and unsuspecting tourists expected.

He rejected any notion the team was overexposed by playing its third match of the season, nor was it turning semi-professional with a cover charge being imposed for spectators for the first time.

"We are very aware of the team being overexposed but if we felt the novelty value had gone, we would back off. But if we turn up on Saturday and there are three people there, then we have cooked the golden goose."

He confirmed another match would be held before the Ireland v Italy game on October 2.

Tourism Dunedin chief executive Hamish Saxton told the Otago Daily Times the team had "fans all around the world interested in their every move".

To capitalise on that interest, an overseas media contingent would be hosted at the game, and images were expected to be broadcast worldwide.

Larnach Castle spokeswoman Deborah Price said as a special deal, those who arrived between 9am and 10am could get access to the internationally significant gardens for $5.

The castle had never hosted nude rugby, but it did feature as a backdrop for a calendar shoot featuring New Zealand model Nicky Watson.

"That is the closest we have come to nudity at the castle," she said.
