Around 100 competitors are expected to provide fantastic ski action at Mt Hutt today and tomorrow in the NZ Land Rover Mt Hutt Ski Masters.
The Capital of Speed will host top New Zealand and international Ski Masters aged 21 plus in three disciplines - the Super G, Slalom and Giant Slalom races.
Paul Marks, Head of Race and Events at Mt Hutt, said the mountain was in great shape to host the events and the Race and Events team was working hard to make sure competitors and spectators enjoyed a great event.
"Turnout from skiers and spectators from as far as USA and Canada is always great for the Masters and we're looking forward to the same vibe again this year, with top-class ski racing alongside some great evening entertainment.
"Masters Ski Racers at Mt Hutt have the opportunity to use the same race training tracks that world cup racers will be using in their lead up to the 2010 Winter Olympics. We're looking forward to a weekend of fast, intense skiing in our race arena - known as the Capital of Speed."
"Following another 15cm snowfall last weekend, the courses are looking great, training has gone well, and skiers are enjoying themselves on the tracks," he said.
The Super-G and Slalom races were held today at 9am and 12.30pm respectively, with cocktails and prize giving at 6pm. The Giant Slalom will take place from 10am on Saturday, with prize giving dinner at 6pm at the Methven Resort.
"We have some great sponsors this year including Export Gold and Lindauer Special Reserve, who will be hosting lunchtime refreshments in the Land Rover Base through to cocktails and entertainment in the evenings," said Mr Marks.
"It's a fun race to come out and watch with a wide range of skier abilities, from former Olympians to first time racers."
Ski Masters will then head to Coronet Peak for the following Land Rover Mt Hutt Masters events on August 6, 7, and 8.
