Cardrona Alpine Resort has broken its accumulated snowfall record by over a metre, with 317cm of snowfall this season. The previous biggest year on record was 2004 (213cm).

The record amount of snow has provided excellent on and off piste conditions and will ensure that the resort's popular terrain park features stay in top shape as the mountain crew have ample snow to work with. Cardrona's high base elevation (1670m) also means the snow stays in good condition down to the base buildings.

To celebrate spring, Cardrona is offering Sensational Spring Workshops throughout September. Afternoon lessons are only $40 per person (limited spaces available) providing skiers and boarders a chance to polish their technique before the end of the season.

Nadia Ellis, Cardrona marketing manager said spring is a great time to visit Cardrona. "We have plenty of snow and the mountain is looking in excellent shape, the resort is traditionally quieter and we are looking forward to enjoying the sunnier climes of spring," she said.

Spring's event calendar has a good mix of social competitions including the Dynastar Ski Masters, 10-12th September, competing in disciplines of super g, giant slalom, slalom. Followed by the Jagermeister Snowboard Masters, 19th September, this will be the finals of the national series with a giant slalom, a lunchtime halfpipe jam in the international pipe and a boardercross in the afternoon.

The boarding boys in blue return to Cardrona for the Blue Hogs NZ Police Championship competing on the boardercross course and in the halfpipe. Entry is limited to actively employed New Zealand police officers. Rounding out the season for the young ones, the Calci Yum Cardrona Kids Festival (Wednesday 30th Sept) provides multiple fun events on snow for kids. The children can expect face painting, candy, laughter, smiley faces and lots of noise.

Cardrona received snowfall on thirteen days in August and currently holds an upper snow base of 170cm, the resort is set to stay open until October 4th.
